Go Links: Paying it (the data) Forward

A new feature has been added to Go Links that allows you to pass data in, and get data out.

Now, when you send POST or GET data to a Go Link, it will pass that data onto the target URL too. How about a quick before and after….

NOW:
Oooohhhh ahhh……
HOW? WHY?
Go Links passes along the parameters, so that your destination/target URL can do more stuff with the data. Mike Vysocka (go.ncsu.edu/map?mjvysock) requested this feature and is putting it to use now for the Maps website.
OTHER USE CASES?
You could also shorten confirmation key URLs in emails. So you could set up your forms or emails to POST to a go link…ending up with a situation like this:
  • Your form posts to: go.ncsu.edu/foo
  • Which converts with the parameters to
    go.ncsu.edu/foo?campaign-id=43243&confirmkey=aKzYss12LM238gHye42
  • Which passes along those parameters to
    http://my-fake-website.ncsu.edu/my-department/my-unit/my-campaigns/?campaign-id=43243&confirmkey=aKzYss12LM238gHye42

All this still works with the Modifiers upgrade that was done a little while ago too.

I’m sure there are other use cases, but that’s all I have right now.
